Welcome to term two. Our theme this term is “ presenting our culture”.
We have started by discussing how school life is different from New Zealand school.
Thanks to those parents who sent in photos to support the children’s writing. They have worked very hard and so enthusiastically to share their information and to teach me how the Korean alphabet works!
The next few weeks we will look at “games and sporting activities” so any information from home would great.

The school swimming sports were held on Monday at Greerton pools.
It was wonderful seeing many of the international students trying so hard and taking part. The non competitive
activities were kept fun and within everyone’s capabilities.
The children have written recounts of what they enjoyed about the day and it was all very positive. We are so proud of you!

This week the students have read some books about ocean animals and then chose their favourite one to write about.
There was a lot of discussion about the shells on display and why we could hear the ocean inside them!
We also discussed what we need to take to the beach to stay sun safe.
A great start to our ocean unit.

A very warm welcome to 2018 to our international students - both returning and new.
It has been lovely spending time with you in your classrooms and seeing how well you are settling into school life here at Tauriko School.
Your happy faces are an indication that things are going well for you. It is so lovely to see you making new friends.
What a wonderful term we are going to have together.

Last Friday, our new international students enjoyed a special day tour hosted by Education Tauranga, Tauranga City Council and New Zealand Educational Tours.
Our new international students and their parents enjoyed this opportunity to get to know one another, including other international students and parents from other schools.
We enjoyed local sights including seeing our beautiful city from the top of Summer Hill. We then travelled to Comvita for a private tour where we learnt about the very special role bees play in our lives. A highlight was tasting the many varieties of delicious honey. After this we continued on our bus journey to Maketu Beach where everyone was served their own portion of fish and chips - in true Kiwi style. It was really special having lunch sitting watching the rolling waves crash around us. And it wouldn't have been complete without a hokey pokey icecream to finish!
We ended the day at the Mount hot pools. It was a perfect introduction for our new families to our wonderful city, and a wonderful opportunity for new connections and friendships to be made.
