Hairy Maclary

In the past few weeks we have been reading a favourite book called "Hairy Maclary From Donaldson's Dairy." The author, Lynly Dodd, is a local from Tauranga and she has written many beautiful books about animals. There is a park in downtown Tauranga where many of her characters have been made into large brass statues that children can climb on - you may have seen it.

The children in our ESOL classes have been reading the book in order to learn the characters and write about their favourite ones. They have also studied about dogs, and together we have recorded these facts. There has been some lovely artwork to accompany this work. The older students have made puzzles and found information about the different jobs that dogs can do. Everyone has enjoyed playing the Hairy Maclary game in which 1 person gets to be Scarface Claw (The toughest Tom in town) and chase the other characters back home!
