Welcome from the Mayor of Tauranga

On Monday 13th March, two students from each educational institution in Tauranga, along with their families, were invited along to the Council Chambers in Tauranga to meet the Mayor of Tauranga - Mr Greg Brownless.

Woobin and Leo, along with their Mothers' Hoshi and Tina, attended this occasion as representatives of our International Community at Tauriko School.

It was lovely to join together with other schools in Tauranga, and celebrate together.

Mr Greg Simmons (Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Tauriko School, and Strategic Projects Manager at Priority One), welcomed everyone:

"To tangata whenua, Tauranga moana means a place of safe anchorage.  Together, with the sacred mountain of Mauao, the fertile soils and plentiful sunshine, have made the Tauranga region an attractive place for people to live, learn, work and play for many generations.

Today, Tauranga is one of New Zealand’s fastest growing and most prosperous cities, offering people who choose to live here the opportunity to experience not only a great lifestyle, but excellent education opportunities and career prospects.

Tauranga is focused on becoming an internationally competitive city.  We are home to New Zealand’s largest sea-port and strategically positioned in New Zealand’s growth triangle encompassing Auckland, Hamilton and Tauranga – an area that is forecast to grow by over 34% in the next 10 years.

The Tauranga region is famous all over the world for its Zespri kiwifruit and pristine marine environment.  We are now also building a reputation for innovation in fields such as robotics to service New Zealand’s primary industries, and in advanced materials engineering to meet global demand in the aeronautical, sporting and automotive industries.

By choosing to come and live and study in the Tauranga region, you will experience warm people who are ready to support you in your education journey.  Our schools, education agents and peak bodies, such as Education Tauranga, are all here to ensure you receive not only an excellent educational experience, but also to help you make the most of your time in Tauranga and enjoy everything our region has to offer."

Students, parents and caregivers, International Managers, Principals and Agents then joined together for a morning tea, and photos with the Mayor Mr Brownless.
